GUIDELINES TO DISABLED ACCESS AT THE GARDNER ARTS CENTRE
We are pleased to welcome disabled visitors and we are working to make the centre more accessible. Currently our access falls short of what we would hope to offer and are actively working to resolve the problems. Plans have been drawn up that we hope will enable us to improve our access during 2005.

You can talk to our Box Office staff on 01273 685861 who will be able to advise you of our current access information and will do all we can to ensure that your visit is as comfortable as possible
The café, bar, foyer and wheelchair accessable toilets are situated on ground level.
Currently the only access to the auditorium and the gallery is via stairs. There are 7 steps up to the gallery and 18 steps up to the auditorium. The first 4 rows (Rows A – D) in the auditorium are on a flat level. The rest of the auditorium (Rows E – X) go up by 1 step per row.
We have wheelchair spaces in the front 3 rows of the auditorium and are able to accommodate up to 4 wheelchairs per performance. Wheelchair users should book in advance and discuss any specific requirements with our staff who will be pleased to help.
We have recently bought an electrically assisted stairclimber which is
able to carry standard self-propelled wheelchairs up the stairs. Users can
either use their own wheelchair once inside the auditorium or transfer to
a seat. The stair climber is also available for those who find stairs difficult.
Please ask the box office for more information.
Registered disabled customers are able to park in the turning circle outside the Gardner Arts Centre. Please ensure your vehicle does not block the main entrance and please advise a member of staff where you have parked.
Registered disabled customers are eligible for a concessionary priced ticket. If you require assistance during your visit we offer up to 2 complimentary tickets to enable you to bring assistants. Gardner Arts Centre staff are prevented by health and safety legislation from assisting with carrying wheelchair users up the stairs.
Loop System (Infrared)
Infrared Transmission Facility or Loop System is available. Customers are able to use this automatically if they have a T position on their hearing aids. Otherwise, we have 6 headsets available which should be reserved in advance through our Box Office staff on 01273 685861.
Guide Dogs are Welcome. Please let our Box Office staff know that you will be accompanied by a guide dog and we will ensure that a there is a space beside your seat for your dog.
A large print diary of events is available at the Box Office or can be sent to you.
