Access Through Participation

Every year the Gardner Arts Centre supports local community groups who visit the centre to perform productions, conduct conferences and meetings and even wedding receptions. University groups such as SMuTS (Sussex University Musical Society) and ACAS (African, Caribbean and Asian Society) perform at the centre annually, while Freshers are welcomed on campus with a range of freebies and special events such as a free film screening. The 36 Hour Film rUSh has become an annual event when Sussex Students are invited to produce and submit an original short film to be screened at the GAC and be in with a chance of winning an award.

The gallery has hosted a range of community exhibitions including the University of Sussex annual Media Studies Degree show and a recent exhibition which celebrated the wealth of artistic talent throughout the schools in our region in the Farley’s Yard exhibition.

Local community groups such as Brighton Theatre Group and Despicable Acts present their latest productions at the centre, receiving professional administrative and practical support throughout the process.

Conference events such as Brighton Breast Cancer Day, the UOS International Summer School Admissions Days and All Ways Learning have all taken place at the Gardner Arts Centre in the recent months. Regardless of the event, staff at the Gardner Arts Centre offer a professional, comprehensive and supportive service to meet the individual needs of the community group.
